Our Club. Our Story.
About Us
A non-profit, volunteer-run club developing athletes in the Bayside area.
About us
The Sandringham Athletic Club (SAC) is a non-profit grassroots sporting club that is entirely run by volunteers committed to developing athletics in the Bayside area. The club values the wellbeing of all its members; we have a philosophy of developing athletes first and foremost, with success at competitions a natural progression from that point.
SAC operates year-round to support athletes during the summer Track & Field season and the winter Cross Country and road racing season. We encourage teamwork and sportsmanship through squad training, relay competitions and competing as one team in the Athletics Victoria Shield League (AVSL).
The club supports athletes competing at all levels, from weekly Shield meets to State and National events, Commonwealth Games, Olympics and Paralympic Games. Athletes of all ages (12 and older) and abilities are welcome to join us.

Our culture
Club values
Respect
Value those who help our sport grow: club mates, coaches, officials, supporters and all stakeholders.
Integrity
Always act with honesty and maintain strong morals.
Inclusion
Be encouraging and accepting of all who love track and field, no matter their background or ability.
Wellbeing
Athletics is above all a contributor to a healthy lifestyle; we put the athlete's physical and mental wellbeing ahead of performance.
Sportsmanship
Act ethically and fairly, in line with the club values and code of conduct, showing respect to competitors, officials and supporters.
Facilities
Roy Boyd Athletics Centre
Our home at the Sandringham Athletics Track on Glamis Ave underwent a major redevelopment in 2021. Features of the track include a 10-lane front straight, 4 separate jump pits, 2 high jump pits, a large hammer/discus cage plus a second cage for junior discus, 2 javelin runways and 3 shot put circles.
The track features exciting technology making Sandringham the first Polytan SmarTrack in Melbourne. In-ground sensors give athletes precise timing of every rep, installed every 50m in lanes 1 and 2 and every 10m down the front straight in lanes 8 and 9.
The facility also includes a clubhouse with toilets, a small canteen and an open warm-up area. Members have exclusive access to the on-site gym during training hours, featuring 2 lifting platforms, 2 bench press, leg press, squat rack, smith machine, cable machines and free weights.

Athletic training program
Training may be available for athletes from the age of 12, subject to coach availability. Each coach runs a slightly different timetable, so specific times vary by the athlete's level.
Track and Field Training: Monday to Thursday 4pm to 7pm, Sunday 9am to 12pm.
Competitions
Where we compete
As an Athletics Victoria affiliated club, SAC competes in the Athletics Victoria Shield League (AVSL), competing over 10 rounds with no playoffs — the top two teams are promoted and the bottom two relegated each season. Athletes of all ages and abilities are welcome in any event, plus team relays throughout the season.
Athletics Victoria also hosts specialist meets such as High Velocity (sprints, hurdles, long jump and high jump) and Throwers Club (shot put, discus and hammer). We also have a growing contingent of cross country runners enjoying great success and podium finishes during the winter relay events. More at the AV events page.
Little Athletics
Sandringham Little Athletics (SLAC)
SLAC encourages athletes of all abilities to learn the fundamentals of running, throwing and jumping, catering for children aged 5 to 15. Competition is held at the track on Saturday mornings from October to March, with coaching on Wednesday nights.
Little Aths training: Wednesday 4pm to 6pm.

Masters
Athletes of every age
We have a great contingent of Masters athletes competing for SAC across all events. Masters events (Victorian and Australian Masters Championships) start at 30 years old and compete in 5-year age groups. At XCR and AV Shield events we all compete as one team, so if you're bringing a child along, why not join in yourself?
