About the club
Who are Sandy Aths?
Sandringham Athletic Club (SAC), established 1930. We're a senior athletics (track and field) club based at Sandringham Athletics Track on Glamis Avenue, Hampton VIC 3188. We compete with Athletics Victoria.
What ages do you cater for?
We're a senior club, open to athletes aged 12 and over. Athletes under 12 are usually a better fit for our Little Athletics neighbours, Sandringham Little Athletics Club: www.sandringhamlac.com.au.
Do you run junior or kids' programmes?
Not directly. For under 12s, see Sandringham Little Athletics. From 12 onwards, junior athletes train and compete with us under coach supervision.
Do you support older athletes?
Athletics Victoria offers separate events and leagues for 40+, 50+ and 60+ and we participate in these. Contact Jonathan Reeve via jonathanreeve@hotmail.com for more information.
From age 30 you're also eligible to compete as a Masters athlete in the separate Masters leagues (different to Athletics Victoria). If Masters competition is your primary focus, larger Victorian Masters Athletics (VMA) clubs like Mentone or Glen Eira have dedicated Masters training and competitions: vicmastersaths.org.au.
Joining and membership
Can I trial a session before joining?
Most coaches arrange a free trial before you commit to joining. Get in touch (www.sandyaths.com.au/contact) with your age and the events you're interested in.
Please note that coach availability is currently limited. We can guarantee a coaching place for middle distance and cross country. For all other events — sprints, hurdles, jumps, throws, steeplechase and field events — we cannot guarantee a coach or squad place. We will always be upfront about what's available before you commit to membership.
How do I join?
Register through our membership page: www.sandyaths.com.au/membership. Registration is run through Athletics Victoria (RevSPORT). Once registered, we'll be in touch to help get you started.
Which membership is right for me?
We have a few options depending on whether you want to compete, how often, and whether you're an athlete, coach, official or volunteer.
For Open athletes (20 and over)
- Open Membership (20+): $345. Our base athlete membership. Train with SAC coaches during club hours and compete for Sandringham. The fee includes a $50 duty levy you can claim back by completing one volunteer AV duty per season. Choose this if you want to train regularly and decide on competitions later (you can add AVSL or XCR packages at any point).
- Open Member + AVSL package: $485. Open membership plus the summer Athletics Victoria Shield League fees pre-paid. Choose this if you know you want to do AVSL on Saturday afternoons in the summer track and field season.
- Open Member + XCR package: $545. Open membership plus the winter Cross Country and Road Series fees pre-paid. Choose this if you want to do the XCR series from April to September.
- Open Member + Max package: $605. Open membership plus both AVSL and XCR pre-paid. Choose this if you're competing year round. Best value if you do everything.
For Junior athletes (12 to 19)
Junior memberships follow the same pattern as Open at lower price points:
- Junior Membership: $270. Base athlete membership.
- Junior + AVSL package: $395. Base plus summer competition fees pre-paid.
- Junior + XCR package: $455. Base plus winter competition fees pre-paid.
- Junior + Max package: $515. Base plus both seasons pre-paid.
- Dual Little Athletics + Athletics Victoria membership: around $195. If your athlete also does Little Athletics, Athletics Victoria offers a discounted dual bundle. Get in touch and we'll point you to it.
For athletes who don't want to compete
- Recreational Runner: $101. For people training with run clubs at the track or training independently. Note: this is not suitable for athletes training with coaches during club hours, doesn't include gym access, and doesn't include voting rights at meetings.
For coaches, officials and committee
- SAC Coach: free. For SAC designated coaches. Grants voting rights at general meetings. Does not include gym access.
- Official: free. For Athletics Victoria officials.
- Athletics Victoria Life Member: free.
- Committee Member: $13.50. For SAC committee members who aren't athletes, coaches or officials.
A few things worth knowing:
- The $50 duty levy on Open and Junior memberships is fully refundable when you complete one 2-hour volunteer duty at an AV competition during the season. Extra duties earn extra rebates.
- All memberships are purchased through the Athletics Victoria Members Portal (RevSPORT). Start at www.sandyaths.com.au/membership.
- New to RevSPORT? Have a look at our short How To Enter AVSL Rounds on RevSPORT guide (your coach can also walk you through it).
What does membership cover?
Insurance, track access, clubroom and on-site gym access during member training hours (Athlete memberships only), Athletics Victoria competition entry once you've added a package, and access to SAC coaches. Coaches charge their own session fees on top of membership.
Are there any fee rebates?
Yes. Members are required to do a minimum of one club helper duty per AV season (for example AVSL or championships). Each completed 2-hour duty earns a $50 rebate. We often have extra shifts available if you'd like to do more.
Is there a separate fee for coaching?
Yes. Most of our coaches charge a small individual fee on top of membership. They're event specialists and the fee covers their time and costs. This is standard across senior athletics clubs.
Training
When can I use the track?
The track is reserved for SAC members during these hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 4.00pm to 7.00pm
- Sunday: 9.00am to 12.00pm
When do squads train?
Each squad has its own training schedule which your coach will confirm when you join. Senior coaches run sessions year-round — not just within a single season. As an example, the distance squads meet:
- Cross country season (April to September): Tuesday 5.00pm at Sandringham Track and Thursday 5.00pm at Dendy Park.
- Track and field season (October to March): Tuesday 5.30pm and Thursday 5.30pm, both at Sandringham Track.
Middle distance squads typically train twice a week; other squads vary. See the Coaches page for who coaches what and when.
What events do you coach?
Sprints, hurdles, middle distance, long distance and cross country, steeplechase, long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot put, discus, javelin, hammer throw and multi events. Coaches specialise in their event areas and group athletes by age and ability.
What if I'm not sure which event suits me?
If you're a younger athlete under 12, we'd usually suggest a season at Little Athletics first so you can sample everything. If you're older and unsure please reach out and we can see what options are available, subject to coach availability.
Competition
What competitions do members enter?
- AVSL (Athletics Victoria Shield League): our main season-long Saturday afternoon competition. Track and field, October through March. athsvic.org.au/avsl
- XCR (Cross Country and Road Series): April through September. athsvic.org.au/xcr_2026
- State relays and championships through Athletics Victoria.
- Victorian Milers Club (VMC) middle distance series: through the summer — we have strong representation in the VAL. vicmilers.com
Do I have to compete?
No. You can join purely for training, coaching and gym access. We do encourage everyone to give a Saturday a go though — the club atmosphere at AVSL is half the fun.
How do I enter AVSL rounds?
Through your RevSPORT account. See our How To Enter AVSL Rounds on RevSPORT guide or ask your coach.
Track, gym and facilities
Can I use the gym?
Yes, gym access is included in full Athlete membership (Junior or Open). It's an athlete-focused gym with 2 lifting platforms, 2 bench press, leg press, squat rack, smith machine, cable machines and free weights, plus a treadmill and bike.
When is the gym open?
During member training hours. Anyone under 18 needs a coach or adult present for OHS reasons.
Can I book the track for school or club use?
Yes, our track is available to hire for school athletics carnivals, film and photoshoots, and more. Email sandyathstrackbookings@gmail.com or use the Contact form and we'll be in touch with availability and pricing.
